Video: Junot Diaz Interviews Toni Morrison

On December 12, 2013 the New York Public Library sponsored a conversation between Junot Diaz and Toni Morrison. This livestream event was quite powerful as Toni Morrison discussed various topics including her time as an editor at Random House where she edited books by Muhammad Ali, Henry Dumas, and Gayl Jones, the banning of her books by schools and prisons, how the idea of ‘Beloved’ came to her, and the feminist movement and its exclusion of the black female voice.

They’re having these huge meetings about feminism and the power of women, and they’re leaving all their Black maids at home.
